THE SHORT VERSION
Four new shows open on Knect this fall (demo listings): Sunday Best at Alondra Projects in Compton (October 10), Halo Economics at Second Sunday Gallery in Inglewood (October 17), Hand to Hand at The Leimert Room in Leimert Park (October 24) and Hold Still at Pine Avenue Photo House in Long Beach (November 6). All are free.
Fall is when the galleries reopen their big rooms, and this year four new shows open on four Saturdays and a Friday, from Compton to Long Beach. All of them are free. Here is the order to see them in, and the nights to show up.
Alondra Projects, Alondra Blvd, Compton. October 10 to December 19. Thursday to Sunday, 12 to 6.
New painting and collage by Renata Vashon, Inés Calderón and June Ortiz. Vashon's oil portraits of the family interior are the reason to go: a grandmother at a table set for twelve, a father and son asleep on the couch. Calderón's collages are in the middle room, and Ortiz's color-field paintings are in the back with a bench.
Opening night: Saturday, October 10, 6 to 9. Read the studio visit. See the show.

Second Sunday Gallery, Market St, Inglewood. October 17 to November 28. Wednesday to Saturday, 11 to 6, and second Sundays.
Marcus Dade's first solo show: acrylic and real gold leaf, the people and cars of Compton painted like icons. Go to the opening for the conversation with the barber who lent back his own portrait, and for the two lowriders parked out front.
Opening: Saturday, October 17, 5 to 8. The story. The show.
The Leimert Room, Degnan Blvd, Leimert Park. October 24 to January 9. Thursday to Sunday, 12 to 7. Suggested donation $5.
Odessa Lamarr's story quilts and Kofi Abernathy's sculpture from salvage. The garden growing through eleven security gates is watered every morning of the run. Saturdays, there is a quilting table in the back.
Opening afternoon: Saturday, October 24, 2 to 6, early so the grandmothers can come. The story. The show.
“Plan a Saturday: Leimert Park at noon, Inglewood by three, Compton before six.”
Pine Avenue Photo House, Pine Ave, Long Beach. November 6 to December 31. Wednesday to Sunday, 12 to 6, First Fridays until 10.
Three photographers in three rooms: Dorian Moseley's black-and-white street portraits from Compton, Yesenia Bañuelos's color documentary of the weekend, and Lionel Bassett's studio portraits on painted backdrops. Prints from $900.
Opening: First Friday, November 6, 6 to 10, with Bassett's portable studio in the back for free portraits. The story. The show.

The Compton Art & History Museum, 306 W Compton Blvd, is free Tuesday to Saturday, 10 to 3, and its rooms are listed in Exhibits. Between shows, drive the walls.
A note on this guide: the four shows, their galleries and artists are demo listings created for the Knect preview, and the artwork was generated with Higgsfield AI. The museum listing is real.
