Marcus Dade
§ THE SHORT VERSION
Halo Economics is a solo show of new work by Marcus Dade at Second Sunday Gallery (Market St, Inglewood, CA), on view October 17, 2026 to November 28, 2026. Admission: Free
Marcus Dade's first solo show: new paintings in acrylic and 23-karat gold leaf of the people and cars of Compton, painted like icons.
Dade trained as a sign painter and learned water gilding from a frame restorer. He lays the leaf by hand, square by square, and leaves the seams showing so you can see the labor in it.
A barber who cut his hair for fourteen years. A mother at the swap meet. A young man and his uncle's Impala. In the old paintings the halo told you who mattered. Here it does the same job.
The show opens with a conversation between Dade and the barber from Saint of the Second Chair, who owns the painting and lent it back for six weeks.
A note: the artists in this show are demo personas created for the Knect preview, the gallery is fictional and the work was generated with Higgsfield AI.
§ CURATOR’S NOTE
“Gold leaf costs more per square inch than anything else in an artist's studio. Marcus spends it on barbers, mothers and young men leaning on cars. That is the whole argument, and it is a good one.”
