LAFLA Free Legal Help
Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA)
Who qualifies
Generally household income below 125% of the federal poverty guidelines; some people above that may still qualify, so call. Self-help centers serve anyone regardless of income. LAFLA does not handle criminal defense, bankruptcy, car accidents, or wills and probate.
How to apply
Call 800-399-4529 (Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 5 PM), or apply online in English, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, or Vietnamese. Walk-in times for each office are on the Locations page.
What it is
LAFLA gives free civil legal help to low-income people across LA County. Areas include eviction defense, housing, government benefits, domestic violence and family law, immigration, employment, record clearing, student loans, and veterans' issues. It has offices in Long Beach, South LA, East LA, Santa Monica, and near downtown.
