THE SHORT VERSION
Six artists with work up in fall 2026 on Knect (demo personas): collage artist Inés Calderón, abstract painter June Ortiz, sculptor Kofi Abernathy, photographers Yesenia Bañuelos and Lionel Bassett, and muralist Sol Arceneaux.
Every season has a few artists who seem to be everywhere at once. Here are six whose work is up this fall, in galleries, on walls and in the back of a portrait studio. Learn the names now so you can say you were early.
Lynwood. Calderón builds collages out of what families keep and do not frame: quinceañera snapshots, church bulletins, candy wrappers, embroidery thread, marigold petals pressed under resin. She covers faces with paper flowers, so nobody in the family archive is put on display without saying yes.
Start with Two Grandmothers, her Mexican grandmother and her Black godmother, who shared a fence for forty years, holding hands in cut paper.

In Sunday Best, Compton, from October 10.
Leimert Park. Ortiz paints the light over Los Angeles: jacaranda season, sodium streetlights on Crenshaw, the marine layer before it burns off. She stains raw canvas with thinned acrylic and sands oil paint back until the color reads like weather. Sit on the bench in front of Jacaranda Season for five minutes. It changes.
Also in Sunday Best.
Watts. A welder who grew up four blocks from the Watts Towers and builds in the same spirit: rebar, car rims, broken tile, bottle glass, security gates, all made to stand up and shine. Family Tree (Rims and Rebar) is nine feet tall; the branches are rims from cars that belonged to people on his street.
In Hand to Hand, Leimert Park, from October 24, with the quilts of Odessa Lamarr.
South Gate. She started as the cousin who always had a camera at parties. Eight years later, Sundays Are Ours is a saturated, joyful record of the weekend in South LA and the Gateway Cities: swap meets, backyard quinceañeras, car washes, the ice cream truck.

In Hold Still, Long Beach, from November 6.
North Long Beach. Bassett runs a neighbourhood portrait studio with backdrops he paints himself in teal, ochre, bottle green and burgundy. Graduations, church anniversaries, boxers before a fight, on medium-format film. Church Anniversary, White Hat is the one people stop at.
Also in Hold Still, where his portable studio will be set up on opening night for free portraits.
Compton. Fifteen years of walls across Compton and South LA, almost always with a crew of teenagers who learn to grid and scale a sketch on the job. Her newest, Ancestors Gate on South Central Avenue, weaves Adinkra symbols and Mesoamerican step patterns into one border along a schoolyard wall.

Her walls are in the Murals room. Take the drive.
A note on this story: the six artists are demo personas created for the Knect preview, and the artwork shown was generated with Higgsfield AI. The neighbourhoods are real.
