§ THE SHORT VERSION
Lionel Bassett is a photographer based in Long Beach, CA (a demo persona on Knect).
Lionel Bassett runs a portrait studio on a commercial strip in North Long Beach, with backdrops he paints himself in teal, ochre, bottle green and burgundy. The studio photographs graduations, church anniversaries, new babies and boxers before a fight, on medium-format film. Sitters is the series of portraits his customers agreed to let him show, and it reads like the family album of a whole city.
