§ THE SHORT VERSION
June Ortiz is a painter based in Leimert Park, Los Angeles, CA (a demo persona on Knect).
June Ortiz is an abstract painter whose subject is the light over Los Angeles: jacaranda season, sodium streetlights on Crenshaw, the marine layer that burns off by eleven. Afro-Puerto Rican and raised in Leimert Park, she stains raw canvas with thinned acrylic and sands back oil on linen until the color reads like weather. She teaches painting to teenagers on Saturdays.
