Inés Calderón

Inés Calderón builds collages out of what families keep and do not frame: quinceañera snapshots, church bulletins, candy wrappers, embroidery thread, pressed marigolds. Raised in Lynwood by a Mexican mother and a grandmother from Jalisco, with a Black godmother two doors down, she makes work about the neighbourhoods where those families share a fence. Faces in her collages are often covered by paper flowers, so nobody in the archive is put on display without saying yes.
