Portraits of the riders
Painted portraits of the riders, in the hats they actually wear, hung like the heroes of a song.
A corrido is a ballad that tells the story of a real person. The riders of this city have been the subject of songs for decades. Here they are the subject of paintings.
Each portrait hangs beside the saddle, the boots or the photograph that goes with it. The families came to the opening in the same hats.
§ CURATOR’S NOTE
“A corrido is a ballad about somebody real. These are ballads you can hang on a wall, about riders who still come up the street on Sunday.”
