§ ON VIEW · COMPTON ART & HISTORY MUSEUM
The unending sound of resistance
A group show about what immigration policy does to a family, and what a family does back. The work confronts the pain of separation and celebrates the Black and Brown immigrant families who keep going anyway.
The museum put out an open call and asked artists one question: what does resistance sound like when it will not stop? Painters, photographers, printmakers and people who had never shown a piece answered. What hangs here is what came back.
Start at the door and read the walls in order. The first room is the separation. The second is the holding on. The last is the family table, set for everyone who is still on the way.
This one is better with a person who has a story like it. Most people who walk this room do.
§ CURATOR’S NOTE
“Families get separated on paper first. This room is where the paper stops being the last word. Every piece here was made by somebody who knows the sound we are talking about.”
